Our Partner Schools
To date we have supported 29 kids in a number of different schools. To streamline our work going forward, we aim to sponsor new children mainly at two of these schools, The Sri Guru Harkrishna Public School in Bangalore and the Appu English High School, in Villianur, near Pondicherry, Tami Nadu. The Head Teachers of these schools can put us in touch with more really bright kids from poor families who would be ideal for our support.
Indu
Indu is AMOK's first undergraduate, studying Electrical Engineering and Electronics at Reva University in Bangalore. She achieved an average score of 86% in her first-term exams. Congratulations, Indu
Arun
Arun hails from a billage with a great name for non-Indians to pronounce - THIRUVENAINALUR - in Tamil Nadu.
Shevani
Shevani is a lively, boisterous 16-year-old girl, always chatting away in English. She is very positive and prepared to use her good English at every opportunity. Her father is a shop assistant and earns ca. Rs. 3000 a month (£30). Her mother is a housewife.
Kalaiselva
Kalasiselva is a 13-year-old girl, and has a younger brother. Dad is a "coolie", or delivery man, and is entirely dependant on causal work. Every now and again he brings home Rs 200 (£2), but that's just about all the income available from him. Mother is a maid, and earns Rs 3000 (£30) a month.
Joyce Angel
Joyce Angel is 12 years old - also very quiet, but with some hidden potential which is slowly seeping out for all to enjoy. The Trustees first notes were " The home was neat and tidy, of course, and I was told that mother and daughter sleep on a small bed, the two sons sleep on the floor, and the father sleeps "outside".
Gnanesh
Gnanesh is a very lively, but an inquisitive boy. His father is a barber, earning ca. 100 rupees (£1) on a good day. Left to his own resources, Gnanesh recently wrote a fine two page letter to his sponsor in very good English.
Ranjitha
Ranjitha is a 14-year-old girl who has developed from a shy, almost silent girl into someone growing in confidence and making good academic progress
Syed Arbas
Syed Arbas is a high flyer, top of his class in all academic subjects, but also a kind, friendly and helpful person to all around him.
